Meditation and the brain
What’s Really happening?
Meditation has been around since recorded history. However, meditation had not become that popular in western culture until the around the 1960’s. Because of the fast paced culture of western society, many people have not taken the time to discover the benefits of practicing meditation. Until recently, it was assumed that one had to devote several hours a day for several years to develop the ability to get into a productive, deep meditative state.
Once scientists were able to study the brain activity of experienced meditators, they discovered exactly what makes meditation work. They discovered that while a person is meditating, their brain waves lower down to a slower brainwave frequency called alpha or an even lower frequency called theta.
While the brain is operating at this frequency, the mental focus is switched from the outer physical body to the inner “I”. This is the brain frequency of daydreaming or light sleep, the gateway to the subconscious where you can communicate with your true self. In this state you can literally reprogram your subconscious for heath, wealth, success, inner peace, and happiness.
Have you ever heard the saying, “The roots create the fruits?”

What are the roots of your mind?
The state of your life right now shows the fruits of your actions. The thoughts we think in our minds are what lead us to take those actions. So our thoughts are like the roots of our tree that produce those fruits.
Meditation is how we take care of our roots. It is the watering process for the roots of the inner self so that we can have a healthy foundation to grow on. Before you can change the fruits, you have to take care of the roots.
Getting into the alpha meditation mindset
The trouble that most people have when trying to start a meditation routine is not being able to naturally get into the alpha brainwave frequency. This is the ideal frequency for relaxed meditation. When in this daydream, almost sleep state, you have greater access to your subconscious mind. Some people call this the universal mind. Different religions refer to it as a type of prayer, or communication with the omnipotent life source.
However you would like to think about it, there is no doubt that allowing your body to relax and your unhindered subconscious mind to come to the forefront, you have a very intimate and spiritual experience. In this state, subconscious will be very receptive to any positive affirmation that you send its way. Be careful thought, the subconscious mind does not have a filter. It is like a small child that will take any suggestion you give as truth no matter how supportive or damaging.
The other problem most people encounter with meditation is simply falling asleep. Most people that willingly enter into the alpha lowered state of consciousness have not trained their brain to operate under its own free will in this lower brain frequency. The subconscious will usually just enter a dream state where most people do not have control over their thoughts. Staying awake while you are in the alpha or theta brainwave frequency is hard but can be mastered with practice. Once you are able to do this, you will begin you discover the infinite reserve of power, creativity, and peace that has been inside you all along.
How do I get in the alpha meditative state and remain awake?
The truth is practice, practice, practice!
One of the most effective and scientifically proven way to speed up the process of getting into a alpha meditative state is by listening to a brainwave entrainment audio recording. When you listen to music with brainwave entrainment technology, your brain waves will be gently guided down through a a process called frequency following response (FFR) so you can quickly, easily, and safely get your brain into the alpha meditative state.
The best wave to stay awake when learning the art of meditation is to find a guided meditation mp3 with brainwave entrainment technology. This way you are guided to a completely relaxed state while your brainwaves are subconsciously eased into the meditative state as well. It is extremely helpful to have someone guiding you step by step through the meditation process for two reasons.
1. They will show you the thought process that you should have when meditating so your mind does not wander and you can stay focused.
2. They simply will help you stay awake because they are constantly giving you something to focus on.
Once you have learned the art of meditation through the help of a guided meditation mp3, you will start to become comfortable with getting into this state on your own. There are a lot of brainwave entrainment mp3’s for meditation without guided meditation to help you get into get into the alpha brainwave state after you learn some meditation basics. You can then begin to use your meditation skills to take yourself on your own guided meditation journeys to attain better health, reduce stress, attract a partner, get insight on a business deal, or become more spiritually aware, just to name a few. Enrich your life through meditation starting today.
Recommended place to start with guided meditation
Zen 12 is the best meditation system available that I have found. This system has a great time tested formula to help anyone become successful with meditation. This program can improve so many different areas of your life and open you up to so many possibilities that you never even imagined. The brainwave entrainment infused background makes it so easy, all you have to do is listen and you can reach a meditative state!
The Zen12 system uses a form of brain entrainment in their guided meditations that you will hear on the free version that you can get from the link above. This is to help people that are new to meditation easily drop into a lower brainwave state. For some people, this entrainment sound in the background can be annoying. I’m not going to lie, I thought it was a first. However if you focus on the narrator as he guides you throughout the meditation process, you should be able move past the annoyance quite easily. Before you know it, you will be “awakened” from a great meditative state feeling more refreshed and ready for the day.
